Attention All Fighter Pilots! Please Read This!

Hoofe is the guy who wrote the flight model for WWIIOL. This page is his guide on the aircraft. If you can't wade through the maths, then at least read the general information on each aircraft type.

I learned more from reading this than I have from four and a half years of online aircombat.

It might have been nice to have some info on the bombers but...

Good site. checked it out when i saw it on PS, its very informative. The best part was seeing the programmer layout that infact if you are in a spitfire 9 you need to use a high yo'yo or similar manuever that maximizes your power advantage to get on a 109's 6 if it starts flat turning because the 109 can out flat turn the late model spitfires, I'd think this would shutup some of the pore-me 109 guys that feel their plane is a piece of crap and cant dogfight.

Sniper and I found early in the spit9 era last spring that your better off using that big ass engine in the 9 to bleed off a pursuing 109's energy then slam down on top of them. If you do get really slow, and I mean real damn slow you can dump the flaps down and get inside a 109 but thats a 140mph or less manuever. For some reason the spitfires will yaw violently and lose a majority of their top speed if you abuse the flaps at all so dont get over 140 with em down or running will not be an option. Id say ya lose 40mph from the top speed if you shake the flaps even a little bit.

This is great stuff!

I've read it once - if I read it a few more times maybe some of it will sink in! ;)

Btw, what is yo-yoing?

A Yo-Yo (besides the kids toy) is a Philipino weapon somewhat resembling a circular saw blade on a... oh wait, you mean the manuever ;)

When you are turning with an enemy fighter and you are moving so fast that you will overshoot, rather than lose speed to keep up with the turn, you go vertical (up) which lets the EA slide out in front a little bit so that when you come back down you wind up tight on his 6.

Lousy explanation I know, but it is difficult to show without diagrams or better still someone demonstrating the move..

Try googling 'aircombat manuevers', someone out there will have diagrams. Else ask someone to demonstrate ingame.

Here is a site which will explain the Yo-Yo and every other aicraft manoeuver you'd wish to know. It has diagrams and movies of each acm.
