Much lighter then the M-60...I can easily fire from the hip...I diddnt like sleeping with it...or having to clean it. Climbing into and out of the humvee with it and in and out of windows is hard too. Makes the M-4 look like a toy. Shes a bitch but i love her.

About 15lbs w/o ammo and tripod?
Effective range about 1,000m at most? The barrel appears a tad shorter than the M-60.
If memory serves, the M-60 weighed in at 23lbs empty. I remember an idiot Captain giving me the PRC-77 to carry around in addition to the M-60 on a particular patrol one day up in the mountains. I managed it and seeing that Captain getting his ass chewed out for it by the battalion commander made it worth it. All in all, one of the best training exercises I ever went on as I shined during it. I had a damn good spotter and could put a real hurtin' on anyone within 1,800m.
Yea, I hate to see them go to the smaller round, but it's all about logistics.
I actually like the M-2 the best, but that damn thing is HEAVY!!

Yes it is shorter then the M-60. I think it weights around 14 or 15lb empty...Full combat load includes 4 extra drums of ammo too. Never seen anyone put it on a tripod...im sure you could but the bipod works fine...(wish it swiveled left and right but it dont). The 5.56 round will travel 1800ft or so but its effective range is 600m point target (Persons) and 800m Area Target , building. field, ect ect).

im done my friend. I am a Military Police Officer. 239th MP CO. Det 1. out of Carville LA. Oh....yes the SAW is a hell of a weapon...M4 is 100x better then the M16....M16 is like a damn telephone pole compared to the M-4....M-4= comfort...M16=Heavy and longer then it needs to be...
