I was a bit unclear... I mean I don't give a sh..t what I'm bombing - as long as I fly with my friends.
I'm a happy bomber

Good story. I've read it before as it is in the book, B-17 Flying Fortress, by Edward Jablonski. That book was one of the first books I ever recall reading. I got it from the Izmir, Turkey library back in the early 70's when I was a boy. If you ever get to read it, it is full of stories about the B-17 in WWII. It amazed me as a boy what those guys did during WWII and it still amazes me to this day. Heroes, every single one of them.

If memory serves, the Bloody 100th BG got it's nickname because of an incident where a B-17 form that group was having engine problems and was forced out of formation. They lowered their gear in an act of surrender and were being escorted by LW fighters. Their engine problems cleared up, so they raised their gear and shot down their escorts and proceeded to try and make it home (can't remember if they did). After that, the LW had it in for them and would single out that particular group whereever they flew.
