Aye, she even ordered the exact one I wanted! Practicing with it tonight. First impression: its definitely 'different'. When compared to the joystick, here's my first take:


GOOD: Simpler precision flying. Smoother feel on plane response to input. Easier to make small corrections, stay on line, trimmed, and at steady altitude climb/descent. Works equally well for lefties and righties. Clock, flight-timer, and stop-watch built IN. VASTLY superior immersion.

BAD: Less responsive in 'dogfight' scenarios. More difficult to fly Havoc/DB-7 as a 'psuedo-fighter'. More perfectly suited for medium-heavy bombers (He-111, Lancaster, B-17) who lack the relative nimbleness of the A-20. Bulkier footprint on desktop. Though it has ~20 buttons/switches and three throttles, it really could use a few more (resolved by purchasing 2nd throttle quadrant).


For pure bomb-runs (factories, bridges, etc), I like this yoke a TON. It really does feel like I'm 'there' in a WW2 bomber. And with zero practice out of the box it has already improved my precision when turning/climbing/etc. Then again, as a lefty (who has extreme difficulty flying right-handed) other flight-stick options like HOTAS are not ideal for me. More experienced pilots might have better success with that type.

Using it with a fighter is actually comical...its just not ideal for escorts. Which means lots of hooking/unhooking to desktop between bomb-runs and fighter-runs. I would not recommend this yoke for those that actively do both.

Overall, it appears to be one of those 'perfect for one thing...weak when trying to do anything it wasn't designed for' flight systems.

That is pretty cool, very nice.

Always wanted a yoke myself when I flew for a virtual airline on FSX but then the other 80 of games I play wouldnt really be suitable. One thing about the yoke is dont forget the P38 actually had a yoke joystick aswell, so may take alittle practice to get the feel of it dogfighting. I was thinking of getting one for World of Planes when flying the heavier bombers.
