@ Pegasus. That was Northern Ireland at the height of the "Troubles".
@ Sniper. Imagine being in a riot situation: Close contact with civilians. Someone grabs your rifle off you. They can't point it at you because you are attached to the butt plate. The weapon can only be pointed away from you.
Remember though. This was over 40 yrs. ago
Things have changed. (just a little).
The BASICS never, ever change. No matter what year it happens.
p.s. Sniper. So that means: "I was in Baghdad, before you were in your dadsbag"

Ahh my father was stationed in Berlin at that time in the Miltary Police (where he met my mum who was a nanny for a army colonel family). I know he did a tour in Ireland as well in the Miltary Police, and also later when he was stationed at Tidworth/Middle Wallop when he transferred to the Army Air Corps to fly helicopters (Scouts) like the navy Wasp at that time, just like our Prince Harry. I believe he did a tour in Ireland after he passed, and I know for certain his squadron which was based at RAE Farnborough at the time went out to Hong Kong to deal with issue of the Boat people. I remember it was 78-79 and his Scout squadron flew over our house in a perfect V formation (we lived near North Camp / Ash Vale down by Aldershot).
He left the AAC 3-6 months before the Falklands War started to fly jet rangers for a private company at coventry airport, how I ended up in oxfordshire from Hampshire.
The interesting thing was he was colour blind, wouldnt happen today.
I will have to ask my mum if she got some photos of him somewhere.

Shame. Looks really nice and I have a darkroom at my disposal, could have made a nice print from it.
