im my section i have a captain that was a blackhawk pilot. and we were talking while cleaning weapons after a day out at the range, and i was asking her about flying blackhawks and stuff. and i told her that the only way im proly reenlisting was either changing over to fly helis or going Warrent Officer im my field (computers). well then she goes onto telling me about acouple of the requirments to be accepted as a WO im my field, one being you must be a E5 (Sargent) and have so many years of experience. well i have 4.5-5 years left so getting E5 isnt a problem but she said that they still might not approve it because of the experience stuff.... then she went onto telling me about going WO for flying helis. now i havnt looked into any of it yet because im just not sure of what to do yet but she said i could put in my WO paket right now and 6months later get accepted. then 6 weeks of WALCs and a year of flight school i would come out a WO-1. then there would be a 5 year enlistment, but i dont think that would really mater at a WO... of course it isnt guna be that easy but u know what i mean. she even told me about two guys that were in one of her platoons that used to be E-3s and were 20 years old, then she looked at me and says "and you are way more mature then they were" lol i think it would be awesome to be a twenty one year old WO-1 pilot. so she said she knew some ppl and if i did decide to do it she could help me out....
so what do u guys think? to good to be true or just a opportunity waiting?

Sniper,
If what I'm reading in the paper is true regarding the loss of junior officers and personnel in key positions (Infantry, Spec Ops, Pilots, etc.), it is possible that some of the requirements to be a warrant officer and fly helicopters could be waived in your case. It is definitely something you should look in to and no time is better than the present if it's something you want to do. Remember, the Army is on a war-time footing and there is attrition in the ranks in many specialties and ranks due to a variety of reasons. Opportunities are there for the taking if you are willing. Just remember to weigh the risk as well as the reward. For example, in your current position, the climb up the ladder is slow but you aren't getting shot at. If you go helicopters, the climb is faster but you are definitely going to see combat.
Good Luck!!!

Ditto what Cono said.-- It would be a full time, and exciting Job,but with high Risks in todays Battle Ready Nations. Whats your Plans at rasing a Family? No children wanted?? You might want to go for it. Getting a Job at home, might be hard to do?? ( decisions, decisions )
I've herd some of those Helicopter stories in Vietnam. Da sometimes got the Heck shot out of em. -- Yet you only live once.
he he -- Some have good endings, and some don't.
Have a Happy

My uncle was a bird colonel in the army and had me hooked up to become a WO flying helicopters so I know it's true. I decided to remain in the AF as an Air Traffic Controller because of the reenlistment bonus. Big mistake.
Give it a shot sniper. You'll never regret learning to fly.

Go for it man...I was actually thinking about doing it once I hit E-5...but with my area's current situation and me being a MP I may get active orders to Task force Gator....riding around in a crown victoria all day through the hoods and ghettos of Neworleans lol....that would put my training for WO on hold...

Go for it man. If nothing else for the flight training and the big boost in pay. It's a lot less crappy job then being a general joe.

I say do it, I really envy you because as some of you know i have a hearing problem, and my father flew Scouts (Wasp - Navy variant) in the Army Air corps for the British Army back in 70's and 80's before we got the Lynx. It was also my dream to fly but wasnt to be.
I give my left arm and Hiiamben right butt cheek to have a chance to fly full time. If you are that passionate about flying helo's then aim for the skies Sniper and I hope you are successful.
Let us know how you get on, end of the day its your decision and it sounds like a fantastic oppurtunity. S!

Hell, I'd give Ben's right butt cheek for a lukewarm beer. Though I doubt anyone would trade...
Sniper- I keep meaning to drop you an honest and sage reply based on my experience and feelings on the subject. One of these days I'll actually get off my @$$ and pitch in my 2c.
