What we need in the game....

Here's a brief from the magazine "Australian Aviation" August '06.
A US Air Force F-22 Raptor succesfully dropped a GPS guided JDAM bomb while flying at mach 1.5 and 50,000ft.
The bomb travelled 24nm (45km) before destroying a target on the ground.
NOW we're talking turkey!
I wonder if they had to keep the imaginary cylinder over the factory while they did it?
I guess they've got "server tracked objects" in the USAF...

This is really cool. When I was in the US Navy (I was a helicopter crewman), many times I got to witness prescision bombing. I loved to watch the old A-6 Intruders go "low and slow" over the range, and drop 500 pounders right on target, each and every time.
Hopefully, when/if WW2-OL advances the time frame, we'll get my favorite bomber, the B-25! I can't wait to get my hands on a Norden Bombsite!

I use to love watching the F4's slingshot 250 and 500 pounders at the weapons range. In Vietnam, because of AAA batteries, they would fly low and fast, several miles from target, pull up real quick and release. Threw em several miles downrange in an arc. With practice, they got pretty damned good at hitting close to target.
The F4 was my favorite plane to work in the Closed Pattern (practice touch and go's, low approaches, stop and go, etc.) Easy as hell for me to pick up visually, just follow the black smoke trail. Only the navy got smart with the F4. They used I believe Rolls Royce Smokeless Engines and painted the planes powder blue. Hard as a mofo to pick up visually.
The F4 was positive proof that with enough engine, even a brick would fly.

They used the J-79 Engine with AfterBurner, I was told, when I was Sta. in Oceana Viurgina. ( Largest Naval Air Base on the East Coast. It was told the F4- Phantom, and the Airforce fastest Plane took, off same time. I forget where too, but the Phantom got their, turned around, and passed the Airforces fastest going the other way, half way. It was also said It could Take off, get Airborne, and climb stright up with AfterBurner. ( How high I dont know ) Yes, they said that with enough Engine, even a Brick could Fly. -- How ever it's Glide Capabilities tend to be Lacking.
My Squad, had the F8U - Crusader. It was called the Mig killer, but none the less, the Phantom beat it out.
You bring back memories Kiz.
Have a Happy

Duke, you are correct with the twin J-79's. Dang big engine to work on let alone two. Loved the Phantom but my fav is stil the A-10...probably since I worked on those. Twin TF-34's that were a POS. A G.E. engine made for the Navy, the AF bought it from them. Rather quiet, it was terribly underpowered for the GAU 30mm the A-10 had and had the propensity to overtemp and leak in the ass-end (C-sump) area. Fully loaded, the A-10 could carry massive amounts of firepower. Enjoyed watching them on the range at D.M. and at Gunsmoke at Nellis.
Congrats Ithica! Now get your new computer and ass back in game!

Hot damn, two a days! You'll love coaching Itinca. It's one of the most rewarding things you can do. When you watch kids grow and get much better because of your coaching, it's a hell of a great feeling.
